SCANDINAVIAN WOOD STOVE

For our heat source, we will be taking out the existing stove and replacing it with a high efficiency wood burning stove. I love the Scandinavian styles so we chose a Morso 8150 pictured below. It has soapstone from Africa around it to help distribute heat.

BAMBOO PANELING

For the walls, we plan to go with bamboo paneling by Teragren (see link). Here are some pictures I've found with bamboo on the walls. It gives it a nice warm look.

HERMITAGES

Also important to our vision for The Gentry Joint property is the creation of hermitages. These are tiny retreat spaces for people to pray, meditate, laugh, create or just get away from the busy world to be mindful. And let's face it: we love small dwellings. Here are some ideas that delight us. We'd like the put the first one high atop the big limestone cliffs. We don't plan to have indoor plumbing or electricity. Just a tiny wood stove and some candles.

Plans for this available at this link.

Maybe with a breakfast nook inside like this one.

I'm interested in this design, but on the ground.

BLACK & WHITE BATHROOM

Here are our bathroom ideas.

Black and white color theme. Not exactly like this but this is the concept.

This is closer, as we plan to have black tile on the floor and two of the walls.

We have already purchased this floating vanity from Ikea. The sink gets plumbed through the top drawer.

Here's a picture of the sink top and faucet I purchased for the vanity.

Here is another view of the vanity.

We've also purchased a mirrored cabinet for above it. I believe both are 39" wide. We also have a florissant light that goes with it.

For the shower, we want just one piece of glass separating it from the rest of the bathroom like this.

We plan to get this Moen S630 Velocity 8" Rainshower Showerhead and plumb it straight down from the ceiling.

THE RED KITCHEN

The kitchen plans coming together! I've always wanted a red kitchen. Below is the design and other pictures of inspiration.

This is the kitchen, designed with the help of Obert Johnson from ProBuild, Waukon. The cabinets will be custom painted red and the countertop will be white quartz

GARAGE/STUDIO

Here are our garage/studio ideas.

This was my original drawing of the garage/studio. This one was done as a 4'—8' upstairs ceiling. In the end, we went with 5'-13' ceiling. It has a dramatic line.
Here is the actual building (before siding).

This picture was my original inspiration, though ours turned out much nicer.

This shows the type of windows I'd like and it looks good in corrugated steel. The bright door also inspired me to put purple doors on all the buildings of our campus.
This is a great example of corrugated steel exterior with wood trim around the windows. We decided to go with Corten Steel instead of galvanized so that it won't be too shiny in the wilderness.
This picture really inspired me to demand barn doors, which our carpenters have now constructed for us.

CORRUGATED STEEL CEILINGS

At this point, we are thinking we'd like to go with corrugated steel ceilings in the cabin in the loft, the main level and the addition. We love the modern look, the sustainability of steel and the non-off-gasing-ness of it. The way it reflects light is especially exciting. I think we can integrate it with some warmer elements like bamboo walls to make it quite cozy. I've collected some inspirational images.

I particularly like how this steel roofing is integrated with wooden beams. I think we could do this in the loft.

This kitchen layout is quite similar to what we're thinking about. I love how the steel even goes down around the windows, though I'm still thinking planning go with glass tile around the windows on the east wall of the kitchen.
Again, a nice example of wood beams with steel ceilings.

This is a picture I took of the back wall of Fancy Pants in Decorah. It is a smaller ripple and a very nice look for inside.
